Household Hazardous Waste Collections

Collection Regulations

Authorization, Quantity Limits, and Payment

  • One registration per household per season (spring or fall).
  • Registration and Proof of residency  (Driver’s license, car registration, tax or utility bill, or transfer station/recycling center sticker) are required for all attendees.
  • Only residents and small businesses from SSRC Member Towns may register and attend.
  • Residents of Hanover need to bring an Authorization Form from their DPW, or payment (see below),  to out-of-town events.
  • All other SSRC Towns will subsidize up to 50 gallons liquid OR 100 lbs solid per household per season. Residents must pay for quantities that exceed that. See below for payment information.
  • Commercial generators may bring acceptable material at their own expense. Email director@ssrcoop.info to ensure that your material can be accepted and arrange payment.
  • Latex paint is NOT hazardous and is not collected at HHW Collections. More about latex paint.

Quantity and Cost

  • If the section above indicates that you need to pay, bring a check to SSRC, or be ready to pay with Venmo (@ssrcoop) or PayPal (ssrcoopinfo@gmail.com)
  • Costs are based on container size for liquids (not contents), and approximate weight for solids:
    Less than 10 gallons/20 lbs: $35 
    10-25 gallons/20-50 lbs: $59 
    Each additional quantity up to 25 gallons/50 lbs: $59
  • NOTE: A bag of fertilizer may weigh up to 40 lbs.

Containers

  • Bring gasoline in DOT-approved gas cans (usually red plastic).
  • No containers larger than 5 gal. for other liquids.  
  • Pack items in cardboard boxes.
  • If you have a drum of material, either pump contents into smaller containers, or get prior approval from Adam at holbrook.adam@cleanharbors.com or (781) 206-5852. 

To gain entry and keep the line moving:

  • Have 1 proof of residency in hand (town facility sticker, diver’s license, auto registration, or tax/utility bill.)
  • Visitor authorization form if needed (see above)
  • Payment, if over the authorized limit (see above)
  • Box (don’t bag) and place materials in trunk, bed, or rear.
  • Stay in your vehicle.
  • Don’t bring latex/water based paint (instructions)
