HHW CollectionRegulations: 


HOST & COHOST TOWN RESIDENTS

  • A host town is the town in which a collection is physically taking place.  
  • If another town is listed in the schedule with the host town, that is the co-host town. There may be one or two co-host towns.
  • Residents of host and co-host towns may attend their own town's collection at no chargeProof of residency is required*.

* Proof of residency includes driver's license, car registration, tax or utility bill, or transfer station sticker


OUT OF TOWN or UNAUTHORIZED RESIDENTS, EXCESS QUANTITIES

  • Residents of Abington Cohasset, Duxbury, Middleboro, Norwell, Rockland, Scituate, Weymouth and Whitman may attend ANY SSRC collection with proof of residency*.  (Those SSRC Member Towns have provided blanket authorization for their residents to attend).
  • Residents of  Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Hull, Kingston, and Plymouth may attend any SSRC HHW collection at no cost IF they obtain and bring a Visitor Authorization Form from their own town's Hazardous Waste Coordinator.

•  Proof of residencyis required at event. 

•  Please note the limits on the subsidized quantity on the formIf you have more material than your town will subsidize, see below for instructions on payment for excess quantities.

Please bring a check made out to Stericycle Environmental to cover applicable costs IF:

  • you are from Abington, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Hull, Kingston, or Plymouth, AND your town is neither hosting nor cohosting the event you wish to attend, AND you don't have a Visitor Authorization Form from your town's responsible department OR
  • you have a Visitor Authorization Form, but have more material than the form indicates your Town will subsidize OR
  • your material is from a commercial source

    QUANTITY & COST

    Costs are based on container size for liquids (not contents), and approximate weight for solids, payable by check to Stericycle Environmental: 

    Less than 10 gallons / 10 lbs: $29

    10-25 gallons / 10-25 lbs: $47 

    Larger quantities are assessed in additional multiples of $47

    - a bag of fertilizer may weigh more than 25 lbs

          Note:  minimum charge for collection at home or facility is $400, plus cost of material.


    Please DO NOT BAG your materials, it makes it difficult for us to assess it.

    BRING A BOOK:  Lines can sometimes be long, especially in the first hour of a collection. We strive to keep wait times under a half hour, but it is not always possible. Walk-ins (as opposed to drive-ins) are not allowed, due to safety issues.

    Lexington: Minuteman Hazardous Product Regional Facility - 8 Saturday collections from April through November, open to nonresidents for a fee


    Sutton MA: (south of Worcester) New England Disposal Technologies accepts residential hazardous waste at cost on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-4 year round


    The Cape Cod Cooperative Extension Service runs several HHW collections in spring, summer and fall.  If you are not a resident of the host town, and cannot wait for a local event, you may pre-register two weeks ahead of an event using the "small business" rules, and pay for what you bring by check. 


    MA Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs - Municipal Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facilities


    Recolor Paints, LLC, accepts latex paint for recycling year round at their Collection Site,149 B Winter Street, Hanover, MA 02339, for a fee of $2 per container. Seerecolorpaints.com for a description of what is accepted and what is not accepted.

    If you are a resident,the fee is waived if delivered within a week from your Town’s collection

     ‡   Latex paint NOT accepted at these collections

    ** Usable latex paint accepted at this collection ONLY .  It will be recycled into Recolor Paint.  Please sort it from your hazardous material.  

    Latex paint may also be dried and disposed with regular trash.
