The SSRC helps Member Towns optimize their recycling programs, reduce the quantity, toxicity & cost of disposal, and advocates for policies and laws that help municipalities put waste to its highest use at the lowest cost. More...

Last year, our South Shore towns spent $4.5 million to dispose of trash. 

What's wasted in our trash: Food, compostable paper 25%, Clean paper, cardboard 16%, Rigid plastics 6%, Textiles 5%, Plastic film 4%, Everything else 42%

A Message from our Executive Director:

Twelve of our Member Towns will be enlisting the services of our Recycling Education and Compliance Officer, Julie Sullivan, over the next 2 years!  She will start at the Hingham Transfer Station this Sunday.  Her goal is to get the trash out of the recycling, and the recycling out of the trash in our residential programs. Her position is funded by a grant fro MassDEP.
